I have been thinking of mixers for sometime. Reading more the probelmatic preamps of the Yamaha and Euro rack series, I decided to go in for the Xenyx based amps in _________ I nailed down to the following 3 models
The main idea behind me going for a mixer were the following
1. Ability to practice with mulitiple instruments
2. Ability to record mulitople instruments
3. Ability to modify sound
4. Seperate output
How I solved all those challenges
1.
Micromix mx400 takes care of that
2.
If I do this, I end up with a single track that has all the instruments, which I did not want. I wanted to do track based recording
3.
After I got my stomp box for bass guitar, I realized that the amount of modelling you can do with a mixer is pretty limited compared to a decidecated piece of hardware like a stomp box or even an effects box. When you combine them with chaining the possiblites are endless. Also, when you get track based recording, its easy to add a few effects here and there during the post ( post processing )
4.
Most mixer in the price range allows for 2 -3 seperate output (1 or two fx and aux in ) so that your guitarist can hear more volume for the guitar
Currently there is no replacment for this, and everyone has to be happy with the output from the monitor/ headphone mix. The only thing they can do is to increase the volume of the headphone using the headphone amp. But at this point of time, I don think its a major drawback
